saturday’s wedding was another magical affair. everything turned out perfectly for megan and peter’s spanish-inspired event, including mild weather and lots of great dancing under the stars!
i had such a wonderful time working with and getting to know this couple. megan and peter met serendipitously on a bus in guatemala, while attending a language school there. upon meeting them, i found them both to be exactly the type of people i love to have as friends: brilliant, funny, and sweet. we shared some fun times putting together an event that celebrated their beautiful relationship. (their first dance, to quelqu’un m’a dit by carla bruni, brought tears to my eyes. the love and tenderness between them was palpable. it was one of the most memorable first dances i’ve seen.) we drew upon warm colors like cranberry and burnt orange to suggest the warmth of the south american countries they’ve visited together.
it all took place at the los angeles river center and gardens, a quick hop-skip from downtown LA. we had a terrific vendor team on board, including danielle & suthi of skye blu photography, and ian from red shoe l.a. spinning the fab tunes. i look forward to sharing the professional pics with you all in a few weeks!
for now, i am delighted to give you a few glimpses of the day through my amateur lens. 😉
florals were provided by the talented michelle brue of flora by fauna (email@example.com). a trio of vases sat on each table, featuring delicate james storei orchids, cheerful orange tulips, and a live succulent. homemade runners in rich red and orange were placed over khaki linens. amber-colored glass votives completed the warm and inviting look.
escort cards were displayed on easels covered in a vintage tan fabric, adorned with multi-colored ribbons.
at dinnertime, guests were invited into the spanish-tiled atrium. the room was illuminated by numerous candles and amber uplights.
the scrumptious buffet dinner was provided by auntie em’s catering. if you’re from l.a., you know and probably love this sweet cafe/bakery. the menu featured grilled skirt steak, halibut and a spinach torte baked in phyllo dough. michelle’s dramatic urn arrangements made for a dazzling display.
after dinner, guests were invited outside for dancing and THIS… a luscious dessert display prepared by auntie em’s. if there’s one thing auntie em’s is known for, it’s their addictive cupcakes. the spread here featured red velvet, chocolate and coconut (AMAZING) mini cupcakes, brownies, lemon bars, fresh blueberries and blackberries, and a small carrot cake wedding cake! yes… that is a TUB of freshly whipped cream in the foreground.
here’s a closer look at the tantalizing offerings… an adjacent table featured coffee with raw sugar, cream, and flavored syrups for customizing your perfect brew.
and finally, a pic of megan, peter, and me! doesn’t megan look darling in her orange cardigan?
(style note: for this week’s color-coordinated ensemble, i wore a pleated red skirt by anthropologie (cut off in pic above) with a tea-stained pinwale corduroy cardigan featuring brown floral embroidery and beading, by burning torch.)
m&p: thank you for allowing me to play a role in your wonderful day! i had a great time and it was SO rewarding to watch the night unfold. i wish you all the best~
have a great week! xoxo
