on friday (the 4th of July), i completed my sixth wedding in a 7-week period. wow!! it was a lovely, joyful and highly-personalized day celebrating two very wonderful people. i felt so blessed to spend the day with them and their family & friends. unfortunately, i was unable to snap enough photos to put together an adequate sneak peek. but, i thought it might be fun to instead recap my holiday weekend for you! 😉 here are just a few fun snippets from recent days…
1) friday’s wedding @ Rancho Las Lomas: i was so delighted to finally work at this venue, and already have another event lined up here! the site is a private estate in silverado, ca, that doubles as a zoological garden. there are many exotic animals on property for guests to admire and enjoy, and the overall feel is breezy and Spanish-inspired. adore! highlights of the event included a red cheese photobooth, a casino (blackjack + craps) where guests could try their luck, and a sleek and chic lounge area for mingling. around 10:30p, as the night was winding down, servers from 24 carrots came out to surprise guests with tasty & nostalgic treats: mini kobe beef sliders, sweet potato fries served up in adorable paper cones, and red, white and blue rocket popsicles!!! it was too cute for words! i can’t wait to share photos from this event with you soon, courtesy of the tremendously sweet and talented sarah k. chen
a quick snap during cocktail hour, which took place around the fountain.
the fragrant compressed arugula salads were pre-set so guests could begin eating upon entering the reception area. i LOVE the scent of arugula… especially arugula with apples, candied pecans and balsamic vinaigrette.
escort cards were skewered by cocktail umbrellas and “planted” in fresh plums laid out in wooden trays. festive and fun!
2) saturday’s trip to santa barbara: after only 3-4 hours of sleep following my 4th of July wedding, i somehow dragged myself out of bed and headed to santa barbara with my mother + fiancé. our goal was to visit their potential wedding venue. i think we might have found that perfect spot. 😉 we wrapped up our a.m. visits with a long & leisurely lunch at the bistro at the bacara resort in goleta. WOW. the food, the view, the property!! we sat at our table for nearly 2 hours just soaking it all in. i had the most delectable lunch, too: a crispy shrimp burger accompanied by california coleslaw (ribbons of cucumber, carrot, red bell pepper and napa cabbage tossed with a light vinaigrette and cilantro). too.tasty.for.words!!! ugh! we also shared the dessert sampler because hey… why not? the desserts + a cup of english breakfast tea = total relaxation. i slept the entire car ride home.
the crispy shrimp burger was a breaded and lightly fried patty of sweet chunks of shrimp and minced veggies. paired with a crisp brioche bun and lettuce, tomato, and red onion + aioli, it was perfection.
the dainty yet decadent dessert sampler included crème brulée, a layered trifle in a shot glass, a taste of the richest vanilla ice cream, a chocolate beignet and comforting baked apples. delicious!
our view from the table at the bistro. i loved the canopy of patio umbrellas. 😉
the picturesque view from the lawn outside miro, bacara’s signature restaurant
and now for something totally random… last week i had the most terrific lunch with my former client and now dear friend, nari. we had been trying to set up something for what felt like forever, but we finally found a time that worked for both of us! we reconnected and caught up over the most delish thai comfort food at daisy mint in pasadena, which i definitely recommend. the atmosphere is light, airy and casual, and the service is top notch. i will have to revisit to give a full report on the food, but our spring rolls and my pad thai were refreshing and craving-satisfying! (thank you to former clients danielle & karen for your referrals to this sweet cafe!)
anyway, nari completely surprised me by bringing me two gifts. i was so touched that she would bring me a gift at all, but when i unwrapped them… i lost my breath. literally, i think i almost cried. first i opened this…
a set of delicate, whimsical, altogether darling steel ivy panels from todd boontje!
and once i had regained my composure, i totally lost it upon opening this…

AHHH!! do you recognize it?? this is the necklace (handcrafted by the supremely gifted and totally darling myra callan of twigs & honey) i had pined over in may on my blog. the very day i posted about it, someone bought it. i was CRUSHED and could not believe someone would snatch up *my precious*! haha well that person ended up being nari, who was waiting all this time to gift me with it. i was SO touched by her thoughtfulness and generosity. seriously… my clients are THE BEST. PERIOD!!!
nari — i’ve already worn it 3 days in the past week!!! i will always think of you when i put it on; thank you so much! more than anything, i am grateful for our continuing friendship. i can’t wait to see you again soon!
hope everyone is having a great week so far! xoxo, angel
