in years past, i’ve spent my fourth of july standing around a bbq somewhere, grilling tasty korean galbi and watching fireworks with family and friends. this year, i had the complete delight of spending the holiday with susan and chris as they became husband and wife. although galbi and fireworks were missing from their celebration, the wedding was nothing short of spectacular. the entire day was filled with joy, love and laughter. and as someone jokingly mentioned that evening… it will be pretty hard to forget your anniversary when it’s on the 4th of july!
the ceremony and reception took place at the stunning rancho las lomas in silverado, california. i fell in love with the site back in 2004, while planning my own wedding. unfortunately for me, the site was booked many months in advance. it was easy to see why: the spanish-inspired location is simply gorgeous. the grounds are lush and verdant, providing an exotic escape amidst the hustle and bustle of southern california. RLL also is a private zoological preserve and is home to many beautiful animals, all available for viewing by guests!
in designing their event, susan and chris embraced a romantic palette that centered on shades of purple. from eggplant and aubergine to lavender and blush tones, the colors of the event evoked a sense of modern elegance. it was important to susan and chris to have an event that was a celebration of the relationships that had poured into their lives together, so creating a space that entertained and delighted guests was a top priority. we had a hip lounge area with benches and tables for reclining and chatting, a casino with black jack + craps tables for those who wanted to test lady luck, and the ultimate party pleaser: a red cheese photo booth (with plenty of fun props!). everywhere you turned, personalized details abounded. placecards were attached to darling cocktail umbrellas anchored in purple plums, laid out in unfinished wooden boxes. guests also received quirky buttons with their name + a conversation starter. i had my own special pin that said, “ask me about wedding planning!” table numbers were handcrafted by susan’s students, representing their ideas of love. my favorite read, “love is llamas.” seriously adorable! student artwork also graced the lounge area and cocktail tables. it was a true honor working with susan and chris on their wedding. they are such a well-suited pair and model a mutually encouraging, supportive, and fun relationship.
here is a look at the day through the lens of the lovely sarah k. chen! it was such a treat meeting her, her husband jeff & her 2nd shooter ming. they did a fantastic job; i cannot get over these crisp, romantic images below. sarah also makes the cutest pregnant woman i’ve ever seen! best wishes to you & baby!!
susan’s bouquet featured ruffly pink peonies, blush pink cymbidium orchids and fragrant white freesia.
the couple’s first look 😉
susan just GLOWED on her wedding day. i love the sweetness of this image.
one of my favorites from the day! i wonder what chris is whispering to susan…
susan was escorted up the aisle by both parents.
the ceremony was officiated by a good friend of the couple. she did a wonderful job of keeping things heartfelt and hilarious. i love that sarah catpured susan here wiping away a tear and laughing simultaneously!
the kiss, beneath the delicately adorned teatro.
some gorgeous couple portraits…
the cake + handmade programs featuring a mandala symbol to represent unity and balance.
dinner was served al fresco in the same area the ceremony took place. on the left is an attractive compressed arugula salad, the first course of the meal.
let the games begin…
everyone loves a midnight snack (or three!). from left-to-right: appropriately patriotic rocket popsicles, mini kobe beef sliders, and paper cones of sweet potato fries. YUMMM
susan & chris: i wish you all the best in life and love! take care and keep in touch! xoxo, angel
